The fourth Section of the Scouting family, Explorer Scouts generally have some link to their original Scout Group. In Paisley their programme is directed by the Scout District. Most activities are based at weekends or holidays and avoiding exam times.
Just as in Scouts, their formal uniform consists of smart trousers and Scout shirt and neckie displaying their Group colours.  Again casual clothes for certain activities are recommended.

A follow on from Scouts, the activities and programme for Explorer Scouting follow the same principals, but with the individuals given more responsibility for themselves, and the activities they plan. As in Scouts the programme is part devoted to outdoor skills such as camping, survival and cooking, and adventurous activities such as climbing and canoeing, although the Explorer Scouts are expected to assist in the planning of their own programme to a certain degree.

The Progressive Award Scheme continues to recognise individual achievement through the Explorer Scouting Section. To this end, the efforts of young people in previous Sections or other organisations count towards their achievement and challenge awards, such as The Duke of Edinburgh's Award, The Chief Scout's Awards, and the Queen's Scout Award. All of these are attainable from the ages of 14-25, and can be progressed through Explorer Scouts and future participation through The Scout Network.

Young people can join the Explorer Scout Unit after their 14th birthday, and progress to the Scout Network once they reach their 18th birthday.
The Scout Promise is:

On My Honour, I promise that I will do my best
To do my duty to God and to the Queen,
To help other people
And to keep the Scout Law

The Scout Law is:

  1. A Scout is to be trusted.
  2. A Scout is loyal.
  3. A Scout is friendly and considerate.
  4. A Scout belongs to the worldwide family of Scouts.
  5. A Scout has courage in all difficulties.
  6. A Scout makes good use of time and is careful of possessions and property.
  7. A Scout has self-respect and respect for others.
The Scout Motto is:
Be Prepared
