The third Section of the Scouting family, Scouts are the final Section within the local Scout Group. They usually meet once a week, with the emphasis on learning through activity, play and the progressive award scheme.
Their formal uniform consists of smart trousers and Scout shirt and neckie displaying their Group colours.  Most Scouts bring a change of clothes to meetings and camps such as trainers and tracksuits--saves an expensive uniform getting ruined.
The Scout programme encourages Scouts to learn about themselves, the world they live in, fitness, and their talents and abilities. Half the programme is devoted to outdoor skills such as camping, survival and cooking, and adventurous activities such as climbing and canoeing.
For Scouts the progressive Award Scheme recognises individual achievement in young people, rather than judge them all by set standards--some may be more or less capable than others, but the reward is in their "participation". To this end there are a number of achievement and Challenge Awards to suit all levels of ability.

Young people can join the Scout Troop after their 10th birthday, and move out of the Group and into the Local Explorer Scout Unit sometime between 14 and 15 years of age
The Scout Promise is:
On My Honour, I promise that I will do my best

  5. A Scout has courage in all difficulties.
  6. A Scout makes good use of time and is careful of possessions and property.
