The Scout Association in the United Kingdom is a member of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement which boasts a total Membership in excess of 25 million in more than 174 countries and territories, including members of many different forms of religion. The Aim of The Scout Association is to promote the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials, as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities.
The Method of achieving the Aim of the Association is by providing an enjoyable and attractive scheme of progressive training, based on the Scout Promise and Law and guided by adult Leadership.
Scouting happens principally in Scout Groups, wherever boys and girls meet to enjoy the Scout programme, and to enhance the quality of provision of that programme at local level a support structure is necessary. As part of the Renfrew and Inverclyde Scout Council, Paisley District oversees the provision of the programme locally within organised groups as defined within the Scout Association's published document entitled Policy, Organisation and Rules, the main purpose of which is to explain as simply as possible how that structure is organised.
